Azamat Mukhitdinovich Shamsiev, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, is a distinguished representative of modern pediatric surgery, an eminent scientist, educator, and organizer of medical science and higher medical education.
Professor Shamsiev is the founder of the Samarkand scientific school of pediatric surgeons and the first Head of the Samarkand Scientific Center of Pediatric Surgery. Under his leadership, the Center was established as a multidisciplinary clinical and research institution encompassing key areas of pediatric surgery, including neonatal, thoracic, urological, cardiac, maxillofacial, and emergency surgery. He played a pivotal role in introducing advanced high-technology surgical procedures into pediatric clinical practice, significantly improving specialized medical care for children.
Professor Shamsiev’s scientific work is characterized by a strong clinical focus, fundamental depth, and an interdisciplinary approach. He is the author of over 1,000 scientific publications, including monographs, textbooks, and methodological guidelines, and holds more than 70 patents for inventions. Under his supervision, numerous candidate and doctoral dissertations have been successfully defended.
A significant part of his professional activity is devoted to scientific publishing. In 1996, Professor Shamsiev co-founded the journal Problems of Biology and Medicine and has served for many years as its Editor-in-Chief, defining its strategic development and ensuring high standards of peer review, academic integrity, and compliance with international scientific requirements.
Professor Shamsiev is a member of the editorial boards of several national and international scientific journals and an active member of professional associations, including the European Paediatric Surgeons’ Association (EUPSA), the Russian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, the Asian Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
