Guidelines for Authors
These “Guidelines…” are based on the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.ICMJE.org).
Manuscript Preparation
-
The manuscript must be submitted in Russian or English and typed in MS Word using Times New Roman font, size 14, with 2.0 line spacing. Page margins should be as follows: top – 2.0 cm; bottom – 2.0 cm; left – 3.0 cm; right – 2.0 cm. All pages, starting with the title page, must be consecutively numbered.
-
The length of a full original article, including the sections listed in point 3, should be between 20 and 30 pages; a review article – no more than 40 pages; a clinical case report – no more than 15 pages; a conference material review – no more than 10 pages.
-
The manuscript must consist of the following components: title page; abstract (summary); initials and last names of the author(s); article title; introduction (relevance); research objective; main body; conclusions (summary) and a list of references. The main body of an original article must contain the sections: “Materials and Methods,” “Results,” and “Discussion.”
-
The title page must contain the following information: full article title; initials and surnames of the authors; official name and location (city, country) of the institution(s) where the work was performed; a short version of the article title for the header (no more than 50 characters, including spaces and punctuation); keywords (no more than 6); author information. Additionally, information on sources of sponsorship such as grants, equipment, or medications must be provided; a statement of no conflict of interest must be included; the number of pages, tables, and figures must be indicated; as well as the corresponding author’s address (a sample title page is available on the journal’s website).
-
The article title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect its content. Keywords should be selected in accordance with the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) adopted by Index Medicus.
-
Author information must include the full names, academic degrees and titles, positions, institutional affiliation (name of the institution and its department), and the following identifiers: Researcher ID (WoS), Scopus ID, ORCID ID (mandatory), SPIN-code (RSCI), Author ID (RSCI). The corresponding author’s address must include the postal code and address, workplace, contact phone numbers, and email address. The correspondence address will be published with the article.
-
The abstract (summary) of an original scientific article must include the following structured sections: “Objective,” “Materials and Methods,” “Results,” and “Conclusion.” The abstract must be submitted in both Russian and English (250–300 words) and should be suitable for publication independently of the article. Abstracts for short communications, reviews, and case reports should not be structured but must contain no fewer than 150 words. Abstracts, keywords, author information, and bibliographic references are submitted by the editorial board to electronic databases for indexing.
- The Introduction should provide a brief overview of the literature on the topic under discussion, emphasizing controversial and unresolved issues, and clearly formulating and justifying the purpose of the study. References should be made to publications from the past 10 years. The literature cited must demonstrate the author(s)’ familiarity with strategies for comprehensive scientific information search through global bibliographic databases, online platforms, and digital libraries.
- The Materials and Methods section must provide detailed information about the chosen subjects and methods of research, as well as describe the equipment used. In clinical studies where diagnostic and treatment procedures deviate from standard practices, authors must provide information confirming that the institutional ethics committee approved the study and that it complies with the latest version of the 1975 Helsinki Declaration. Articles must not contain confidential information that could identify a patient (such as name, medical record number, etc.). In X-rays, angiograms, and other materials submitted with the article, any identifying information must be obscured; photographs must not allow patient identification. Authors must inform patients about potential publication of data related to their condition and the diagnostic or treatment methods applied, and ensure confidentiality in both print and digital publications. If a patient cannot be de-identified (e.g., in photographs of facial plastic surgery), the authors must obtain written informed consent for publication and mention this in the article (a sample consent form is available on the journal website). For experimental studies involving laboratory animals, it is mandatory to state that the housing and use of animals complied with international, national, or institutional ethical guidelines. The section should end with a detailed description of the statistical analysis methods used.
- The Results section should accurately and sufficiently reflect the main findings of the research. To enhance clarity, data should preferably be presented in the form of tables and figures.
- In the Discussion section, the obtained results must be critically analyzed in terms of their scientific novelty and practical relevance and compared with previously published data by other authors.
- Conclusions should be concise and clearly formulated. They should answer the questions posed in the research aims and objectives, highlight the key findings, and indicate their novelty and practical value.
- Only commonly accepted symbols and abbreviations should be used. If certain word combinations are frequently used in the text, they may be abbreviated, with the abbreviation introduced in parentheses upon first mention. Abbreviations in article titles should be avoided except in rare cases. All physical quantities must be expressed in International System of Units (SI). Only international nonproprietary names (INNs) of drugs are allowed.
- References must be formatted in accordance with the Vancouver style (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/administration-and-support-services/library/public/vancouver.pdf). Journal name abbreviations must comply with Index Medicus. Authors’ surnames and initials must be listed. If there are more than six authors, only the first six should be listed followed by [et al.] or [и др.]. A version of the reference list transliterated into English must also be provided (a sample is available on the journal website). The journal accepts transliteration styles BGN (https://translit.net/ru/bgn/) or BSI (https://translit.net/ru/bsi/). References must be numbered in the order they are cited in the text, not alphabetically. Reference numbers are enclosed in square brackets (e.g., [1, 2], or [1–4], or [3, 5–8]). Original articles should cite no fewer than 15 and no more than 30 sources; literature reviews should cite no more than 50. References to abstracts, dissertations, theses, and materials in scientific collections or educational-methodical works are not allowed. References to regulatory documents must be given as footnotes and not included in the reference list. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of references and for correctly citing original sources (a sample reference list is available on the journal’s website).
- The spelling rules adopted by the journal must be followed, in particular the mandatory use of the letter “ё” where appropriate.
- Tables must appear in the text immediately after the first reference to them, be numbered, and have a title, and if necessary, footnotes. Tables must be created in Microsoft Office Word 2007 format.
- Illustrative materials (photographs, drawings, diagrams, charts) must be clear and high-contrast, and numbered according to their order of citation in the text. Charts must be provided both in the manuscript and as separate electronic files in Microsoft Office Excel format. Captions for microphotographs must include the staining method and magnification. Electronic versions of illustrations must be provided as separate TIFF or JPEG files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi and a linear image size of at least 80×80 mm (approximately 1000×1000 pixels).
